Default Why do you open carry?

First, I'd like to say that this thread is not to discuss "why you should not open carry" And it is not meant to be a discussion on the advantages or disadvantages of open carry and concealed carry. If you want to tell me why I or anybody else shouldn't open carry, please feel free to send me a private message.

The question comes up allot. It came up at SFN's hearing both inside the courthouse and outside the courthouse. It has come up in many threads, comments sections of news articles, and even on the Bob Durgin show yesterday.

What I want to know is, if you choose to open carry, why do you open carry?
(Also, if you choose not to open carry, but still support open carry, then why do you support open carry?)

I open carry primarily because I can, and I want other people to know that they can as well. And in doing so, to help spread the message that carrying a firearm for personal protection is not limited to a select few and that open carry is legal in the commonwealth of PA. At the same time, I feel that it also reinforces the fact that personal protection is a personal responsibility and not that of law enforcement.

Secondly, I open carry to protest the necessity of the LTCF. IMHO, anybody who is legally allowed to buy or own a firearm should not be required to jump through extra hoops just to be given the "privilege" of carrying concealed. I feel that the LTCF oversteps the bounds of the PA Constitution: "The right of the citizens to bear arms in defense of themselves and the State shall not be questioned." It doesn't make sense to me that you have to be run through PICS to buy a firearm then have to be run through another background check by the Sheriff just to carry that firearm. The PA Constitution IS our License To Carry Firearms.

Lastly, I open carry to remind the government who is in charge. The people are in charge and the people have guns. Powers are granted to the government from the people and the people have both the right and the responsibility to take those powers away from them if necessary and justified. Sometimes the government needs reminding of that fact because it seems like they easily forget.

We the people have not only the right but the responsibility to hang tyrants for treason.

I don't OC but I fully support those who have decided to utilize that option.

Because it's comfortable, and I don't have to buy a smaller gun to conceal (Though I'm sure if I tried I'm big enough to conceal my G17).

    That's really about it.

    because chicks dig it.

because in warmer weather, it's more comfortable.

because i'm overweight, and IWB holsters under $40 suck.

    because i can't conceal a katana.

because i wanna be in the OC mafia.

because i like to flex my 2A muscle.

because i live in a shitty neighborhood.

because i hate feeling like i have to be ashamed i carry a gun.
