    Default Steyer Manlicher Schoenauer question

Trying to get a apx.value on a rifle I have. Model MC 30-.06. Looks to have a 1959 stamp on it. Flip rear peep sight. Has a Redfield 4x scope with a quick release mount marked Paul Jeager Jenkintown PA. Any info or person I could contact that can help me identify this rifle would be appreciated.

Mannlicher stock, or standard sporting style stock?

Depending on condition probably around $1100-1300. Pics would be helpful.

What he said -- posting a few pictures would greatly assist in evaluation.

Beautiful rifle!! With all period correct optics, mounts etc. I'd estimate a little higher than what I originally thought. Probably in the $1200-$1350 range.

Thanks all for the info. The rifle is pretty clean for its age. The set trigger is amazing.

Jaegers in Jenkintown worked on my Sako Finnwolf back in the 80's. I dont think they are around anymore.

Jaegers would have made the scope mount, I think. Is it the mount where that is inscribed or the barrel?

Jaeger and associates enjoyed high praise in their day. Unfortunately, my one visit there was not a good one.

I had worked in a machine shop at Leeds and Northrup in the special instruments section and had acquired a little related knowledge. Gun writers had said when you engage a gunsmith, you engage them at a per hour rate. When I went there, I had that mistaken belief in mind.

A friend had given me an Arisaka action, which I had sent out for barreling in .22-250 and a bent and knurled bolt handle installed. Not having the guide jigs for drilling and taping for a scope mount, I knew there was a high probability of a drill walking, so I carried it into Jaeger's and inquired for a price to do it.

I forget the actual amount they said, but I do remember how shocking it was. I argued they had the jigs, it was four easy tapped holes, that's an awful price. Jaeger's arrogant explanation was "you didn't have the rifle built here, and you didn't buy the scope here". So he was demanding a punisher price. So much for buying their skill in segments of labor time.

    Never went back. For anything.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
