Default A Lot Of Roadkill And Question

Seems like the deer went nuts last night. On my drive in I saw a 6 pointer and a 5 pointer and a doe on the side of the road. Fresh overnight. I've not seen that much in a long time, especially so many bucks. Which brings me to a question. For the last buck I saw, two dudes were loading it in their truck. Mind you busy highway and I assure you they were not the ones that hit it. I assume illegal unless they got a "tag" of some sort for Game Warden?

Yes and they have some time (I think it's 24 hours) to notify PGC about it. I am not familiar with what else they do to investigate the kill. I have a friend who will collect a fresh road kill when he happens upon them.

So, you can do that so long as you notify within 24hrs?

That is my understanding, you can call them and ask, I don't have their number offhand. And I would expect that you would need a hunting license also.

Yup, I get it. Seems like they need that permission first but I could be wrong.

Permission and a hunting license in order to pick up roadkill is absurd. Government overreach.

    From the PGC:

CONSUMPTION PERMITS for deer and turkey only: Residents can pick up deer and turkey only for consumption purposes and must obtain a permit within 24 hours. Consumption permits are issued from region offices. Call the region office that serves the county where the animal is located, directly. Region office contact information can be found below.

Unfortunately this is probably due to unscrupulous people poaching and taking deer when they shouldn't.

The PAGC gets the rack. Keeping a rack from a road kill is poaching, because of what Walleye Hunter said.
The PAGC will sell you the rack from a road kill at, I believe, $10/Point.
Every year the PAGC has an auction where racks can be purchased.
Knife makers and others that use the racks are there to bid.
Same with crop damage killed deer, hides are auctioned off.

Well I saw 2 racks this morning that I could have grabbed if I was unscrupulous.
