Following Thunberg's impassioned plea to world leaders, social media was flooded with comparisons to eight-year-old Lisa, a character who has frequently campaigned about social issues during the show's 30-year run.
During a 2009 episode called 'The Good, the Sad and the Drugly', Lisa tells her classmates their town of Springfield won't exist in 2050 due to climate change.
"With global warming trapping the CO2 inside our poisonous atmosphere, our superheated oceans will rise, drowning our lowlands, leaving what's left of humanity baking in deserts that once fed the world," she exclaims.
Social media commentators pointed out the speech is eerily familiar to the message Thunberg pushed a decade later.
"People are suffering. People are dying. Entire ecosystems are collapsing," she said at the Climate Action Summit on Monday.
"We are in the beginning of a mass extinction, and all you can talk about is money and fairy tales of eternal economic growth. How dare you!"
"Greta Thunberg exudes big Lisa Simpson energy," one Tweet read.Last edited by JDA58; October 12th, 2019 at 04:09 PM.

I really wish life would stop imitating The Simpsons and Futurama.Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Re: The Simpsons predicted Greta Thunberg's UN speech
So, where are entire ecosystems collapsing and where is the mass extinction happening, and what is more of a fairy tale? Dire predictions that never come true over and over again for several decades or solid economic fact if the implementation if their income and wealth redistribution scheme is implemented.

Re: The Simpsons predicted Greta Thunberg's UN speech
I'm confused. Is this going to be a Simpsons, or Greta video watch party?
The answer might determine what food I bring.
So I bring doughnuts, or Swedish Meatballs?Galations 6:9...And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up.

Re: The Simpsons predicted Greta Thunberg's UN speech
Since the episode aired in 2009, it's more likely that Greta's handlers and parents used the Simpsons as inspiration for her pre-scripted speeches.
Watch Greta when she's asked questions and has to go off script. Talk about floundering.
