Default Dunkelbergers doing PICS checks for black powder guns?

Hi guys. First let me say I love this forum. Been a lurker for a while and finally set up an account today. Very helpful informative bunch here.

A friend of mine just picked up a Remington 1858 from Dunkelbergers. He brought it by to show off his new toy, and he told me the store did a PICS check as if he were buying a modern firearm. I was always under the impression that this wasn't done for BP guns. I've purchased them before (from different stores, not Dunkelbergers) and all they did was check my ID as if I were buying cigarettes or alcohol. Is this a dunkelbergers policy? As far as I can see, laws about BP firearms haven't changed recently.

I really can't blame them for being cautious. They've been heavily investigated and scrutinized thru the years. A lot of college kids from Stroudsburg bought guns there that ended up in NY and NJ causing those states to get involved. As far as those states are concerned , BP revolvers are the same as any other HANDGUN.

That’s fine if they want to do business in those states. They are in pa and it’s just another reason why you shouldn’t shop with them.

Did they actually DO a check, or did they just collect the money and pretend they did.

How would PICS handle a request to do a check on a BB gun or a slingshot? Would they do it?

i personally know the owner and while i'd put him out, i wouldn't be buddies with him either.
the store's practices in the past have led me to find my great ffl and member of this forum who charges a fraction for transfers to boot.
there aren't many LGS in the area and even less decent ones.
dunk's also owns pocono pistol iirc and there are even less ranges in the area to choose from than local gun shops. so over the mountain into bangor or up into dingmans for me.

Considering BP rifles AND pistols can legally be purchased online & shipped directly to you, it’s pointless of them to do this.

Playing Devils Advocate, it’s their business and therefore, right to conduct a background check on all sales. After all, there are now convicted felons making YouTube videos on carrying BP pistols. (One guy is super serious about it!)

IMO, seems like a good way to lose business.

I've heard of several gun shops that have customers fill out a 4473 for BP guns.

Remember , being a gun dealer today is EVIL , and saying ''the law didn't require any check or paperwork'' doesn't fly in the Court of Emotions anymore.
Years ago , a mental patient from Norristown State Hospital took a bunch of people hostage and even killed a nurse with a BP revolver he had no problems purchasing. Some politico tried to have them regulated the same as modern handguns back then.
