Default Heat Shields - Cosplay or serious funtion?

Nothing wrong with dressing up your shottie (as long as it doesn't affect function and reliability) - But is a heat shield worth it or does it just make it look more bad-ass? The only time my shotgun barrel got hot enough to even alarm me was shooting claybirds in the backyard with friends - went through a case and 1/2 pretty rapidly (that was with my O/U) and it got hot (no burns though). There is a sale on heat shields for my mossie 500 for like $17 after shipping, which makes me go hmmm. I might get a hunting barrel ($69) too so just wondering. I have 2 mossie 500's one with the birds-head grip and an 18 inch barrel, which I thought the heat shield might be neat on, BUT might be too mall-cop? Thoughts?

If you use you dangerous bayonet after you gun empty, you will need to grab the barrel while thrusting. So yea they are bad ass!

Aw HELL, You mean I need to get a bayonet too? That would be bad-assery ! kinda makes it a bit longer to go around the corners of the house tho... ;-)

There are no corners in a house when you have a shotgun

I've had a couple "tactical" shotguns with heat shields pass through my possession.

I didn't like the shields. I vote Cosplay.

If you don't want to watch the whole thing, start at the four minute mark.
