PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
Just had a puzzling experience. Ordered up a bunch of ammo from LuckyGunner with whom I've done a big $$$ business over the years. Nary a hitch. Good service. Good prices. Good selection to choose from.
As I'm processing the transaction online, I get a popup saying that I needed to complete an "Age Verification" protocol. It mandated that I upload a picture of my driver's license to confirm my age. WTF??????
As I was doing that, I get a call from their CS folks, great guy, who said "Well, PA is now an "Age Verification State, and it has been such since I've been here for the last six months." Double WTF?????? I followed the bouncing ball, responded as required, and it indeed confirmed that I was whatever the F the age requirement is, so I got immediate approval. But then.......
......Intriguingly, at the same time this was going on, I get a popup from my card company requiring me to confirm whether or not the transaction I had just successfully paid for may have been fraudulent. I assured the computer voice that I recognized the transaction, and it responded "you're good to go."
I thought this to be a very, equally transaction coincidence.
Any of you all had this experience? What don't I know, about what law that I don't know about, that got passed by some entity I don't know about, at some time in the past I don't know about?

Re: PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
I haven't heard of any law that was passed that required a DL for purchase online.
I've never heard of any online company requiring a copy of a DL to complete a transaction.

Re: PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
Never been asked for verification like that! I have received a call from my cc company though after purchasing ammo or firearms on line asking to verify it was not fraud!

Roger that, Streaker, I've just checked again with my CC company and confirmed with what appears to be the LuckyGunner site (I checked the header and it reflects to origin of the transmission consistent with LG. Card company says "got your back," and they have before - big time - so, apart from having a copy of my DL floating around out there - I'm in the short term, not worried, But you are exactly correct as to the potential for a severe scam.
Cruzans, yah, surprising given my history of doing business with LG. Beats the shite out of me.

Re: PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
I seem to recall that AIM Surplus used to require you to do just such a thing, fill out a one-time online form with uploaded ID, for ammo purchases. I think that was the reason I never did purchase any ammo from them, even though I had/have purchased several firearms from them.

Re: PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
I would never, ever give a copy of my DL to any store. That's why Best Buy can eat a bag of dicks because they require a swipe of your DL into their POS system to return something which that information is then handed off to a third party. Keeping copies of DL's is just an identity theft goldmine for hackers.

Re: PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
It's NOT "PA law" - it's PHILLY and PITTSBURGH.
That vendor is following their illegally passed bullshit about requiring identification for ammo purchases.
State preemption law prohibits them from doing it, but they did it anyway.
I'll go dig up the old "Bass Pro Shops" thread I started several years ago.

Bitdefender warned me it was a dangerous website that can do damage or something of the sort.
Why is that? I have a week left til my subscription expires, would it be deliberate on their behalf?

Re: PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
Sounds like it's time to start reserving our ammo purchases to cash transactions only. Gun shows just became relevant again.

Re: PA OnLine Ammo purchase issue
AIM Surplus used to require a DL photo upload for ammo purchases... then they got hacked and everyone's info got compromised.
