Stun guns and tasers---NJ/NY

I went online to research getting a taser or stun gun as I will be venturing to NYC more as my daughter recently moved there. However, online the laws are confusing and very vague. Some places state it's perfectly legal yet others state it's county by county regarding carrying. I want something for self defense other than pepper spray and would prefer a taser (shooting) over a stun gun for obvious reasons. Is there a site that could clarify the laws?

NJ just allowed LE to carry TASERS a few years ago. Good luck with that option!!!

Exactly! I hate cities, especially if I can't carry. She knows how we feel and we'll travel there 1 time for every 10 times she comes here.

My wife has worked for a company who sells stun guns and they refuse to ship them to the state of New York, if that gives you any indication of how you should proceed.

Why on earth would anyone think a government should allow them to have a means of self defense? That's preposterous! Just have two cell phones. One to give up to the mugger demanding it, and one to call the people who will come to take the report, transport you to the hospital or morgue, depending. And please be an organ donor if there is anything left of them.

Generally speaking the anti 2A states and cities are anti self defense across the board.
A 2 ounce can of pepper spray is illegal in NJ, you can only carry up to .75 ounce if I remember right.
You can't buy body armor in NYC unless you are a LEO, and so on.
Electronic devices are usually prohibited when guns are prohibited.

Look up Caetano v Massachusetts, if NY or NJ still have a ban on the books you can easily get it overturned per SCOTUS:

I personally know two people who got bans overturned in Maryland (specifically Baltimore and Annapolis) by simply agreeing to be plaintiffs for a constitutional lawyer working pro bono. All they had to do was file the suit and cite Caetano, and the bans were struck down.

That said, you should only have to make one trip to NY, to bring your daughter back to America until she recovers from the temporary insanity.
