I've seen the traffic bad on the belt way even on weekends. I just don't need the aggravation. We work a lot in the Fredericksburg and Richmond area. I avoid DC by heading towards Winchester then toward 95 at Fredericksburg. What really sucks is that Sunday I have to turn around and head back to VA for work on Monday.

It's been many years now, but any time we've gone to DC for vacation, we would stay outside the city and take the "subway" in to DC too.
Super convenient. All the hotels had shuttles to take you to the stations if I recall correctly.
