Serial number. I believe ther is a website that will tell you, or you can contact Colt.

I assume that there is a Colt revolver specific forum somewhere on the interwebz, much like the S&W owner's forum. Usually serious fanboyz have access to manufacturer records and someone there can get you your desired info.

There is a Colt forum that I am a member of, and there i a lot of knowledge there. I don't know if the ROC allow posting links to other forums, but if he does a search of Colt forum, it will come up.

I just used this site last week to look up Colt Python S/N V40128: https://www.colt.com/serial-lookup

It told me the Colt Python with that S/N was manufactured in 1979.
