    Default Any python owners?

    Hey all,

I’m looking for some info from guys that have had their pythons refinished by Colt. I recently picked up my second Python and it’s in less than ideal shape. It’s a 1963 6” nickel plated gun, it’s just extremely dull. The guy I bought it off of kept it in a case and it didn’t do it any favors. I’m afraid to try and mess with it myself as it’s a fairly large chunk of money and python guys are usually weirdos (lol) so if something isn’t quite right it’ll be a hard sell/ I’ll get less for it. Not that I plan on selling either one, I plan on having 2 kids so each get one when I kick it.

Anyone ever sent anything to colt? How was the process? I’m curious as to what the cost is as well, but I’ll have to wait until Monday to call and get some numbers from them.

I've cleaned up quite a few neglected nickeled guns with Simichrome polish. (Wilsons Hardware carries it.) Stripping and refinishing a nickel-plated revolver ain't cheap.

Not sure I'd be dealing with Colt anytime soon , but here's where I'd go first.

The OP should first see what the Python is worth as is and if refinished by an outside shop or Colt. I’m more than confident, having Colt refinish the Python will ensure retaining the best value of his Python, even if the outside shop did a better job. Sounds crazy, but people are fickle. If he is just finishing for himself, go with the quality shop if he doesn’t feel,Colt is up to the task. Just my 2 cents.

I would be surprised if Colt will touch it. I had a model 3-5-7 with hammer push off and they told me they no longer service their out of production revolvers. They recommended some shop, but I never contacted them.

Yes, once upon a time, a Burmese, but it got away in the fields of Cape Coral, when I forgot I left it in a tree to sun.

I’m going to call them Monday and see what they say... I heard something similar from my uncle but wasn’t sure if it was true

He does restoration not refinish. You won't be able to tell it was worked on. Im thinking about sending a python that had rust on top that was rubbed out.

They don’t work on Pythons now. They’re focusing on single action colts and lever actions.
