I am looking at a .44 lever gun to match my .44 revolver , I’m leaning towards the Henry Big Boy or the Marlin 1894 , not to hijack the thread but and opinions would be greatly appreciated. .44 mag out of a lever gun is impressive for short range hunting(150 yards or less) and self defense . Mainly use it as a camp / trail gun.

I just picked up a Henry Big Boy Steel Carbine. It IS tube fed, but has a much better fit and finish than the CURRENT Marlin offering. I mounted a Skinner peep sight. Did I mention it looks awesome???? Color case hardened receiver.

I have the Henry Big Boy Rifle in .357 - It feeds both .38 and .357. I have two wheel guns in the same caliber. I like the interchangeability of ammo between the rifle and wheel guns for a SHTF scenario. Anyway....

My take is to go with the rifle caliber unless you want to pair it up with a handgun. Why not take full advantage of the design of the weapon?

If it's a range toy I want to shoot a lot, I buy the one that's cheapest to shoot.

Nice! Looking forward to seeing it. I have a Vaquero in .357 and a Marlin 1894 in .357, both guns are so much fun. I do reload so it's fun to try all different loads in both. The .357 in a rifle barrel really speeds up. I have some 158 grain swc that I powder coated and loaded in magnums that still need to go over the chronograph.
