Thumbs up Trump spurns Dems on universal background checks

President Donald Trump will not consider the House-passed universal background checks bill as part of his proposed gun package, according to a source familiar with the conversation on guns.

Trump’s position on the House-passed bill is not exactly a surprise. The White House issued a veto threat against the bill in February.

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) have called on Trump repeatedly to bring up the House-passed universal background checks bill. Over the weekend, Pelosi and Schumer issued a statement following a phone call with Trump that anything other than the House-passed bill “will not get the job done.”

Schumer reiterated his calls Monday for the White House to back the House proposal.

Trump in NM just said "I will never take away your sacred right to keep and bear arms"

Exactly. We are nowhere near out of the woods yet.

McConnell and Trump still think we have to "do something" and "doing something" to them means taking away some amount of our Constitutional rights.

Still waiting for Trump to end that 8-year assault on our 2nd Amendment rights. The only *something* I support is a repeal of gun free zones and the enactment of National Constitutional Carry which should be an obvious interpretation of incorporating the 14th Amendment. Other than that, keep the change. We don't need it.

Supposedly the President met with Manchin, Toomey, and some other gun grabber senator over the weekend to hammer out some gun law reform and we should be hearing something this week.

My personal opinion if anything the gun show loop hole AKA private sales will be done, I can also see the age limit for semi autos raised to 21.

I don’t think Trump to be so foolish to try a ban, or forced registration before an election. However if he does anything he is going to loose votes where as I don’t see him gaining anything as far as votes if he does.

Take this all with a grain of salt since nothing official has been released.

He just said it again. "I will never take your guns" and I don't think he will but like others have said will he restrict some of our rights.

That sums up my thoughts on the matter. I'll wait and see. One thing is certain, the President can only infringe on Constitutional rights if RINOs in the Senate infringe first. The House was a lost cause from the start.

Perhaps if y'all crazy people wouldn't be out there slaughtering poor innocent pumpkins we wouldn't have to worry about our gun rights...
