Default Re: NEW BILL WOULD REQUIRE GUN OWNERS TO GET 5 YEAR FEDERAL LICENSE

Every year I read stories about hunters getting accidentally shot by other hunters. Every state has a hunter's license requirement, and I believe every one of them also requires training. With those requirements, the number of accidental shootings should be zero. Maybe we need to look into more stringent requirements for hunters.

mandatory active military service, good credit and a history of low/no debt without financial donations and assistance, income below $200k/yr for the last 10 yrs, 4 years of constitutional study with supplemental general world history and national geography, no charges above misdemeanor on record, gun owner with at least one handgun and long gun. must posess whatever form of id is required for carry in their home state, must be computer savvy enough to comfortably use open source: word, excel and video conferencing applications because there is little reason for them to bitch about having to maintain a home at home and another in the swamp, much less take lobbying funds to pay for both or demand a raise to fund it. they will live among their constituents and answer to them from their singular office.

not that i support these, but they are sensible reforms.

Funny how these assholes will always propose licensing with limits, but they'll never once consider term limits for themselves.

You didn't say this....your reply was less hatefilled than most, I'm just lumping this in to minimize my replies -- but for all the second amendment crap people posted -- there is more to the constitution than the second amendment, and I bet 98% of people who reply with that crap love to talk about the constitution but have never actually read it. This is a common thing of the uneducated right wing.... cite things based on what you want them to say instead of what they actually say (now bring on the quotes of people who can copy and paste small pieces of the second amendment to back up my point).
I welcome your views because healthy dialogue is something this country needs.

The issue you're running into here is that you're spouting a lot of "what ifs". The same "what ifs" we hear all the time.

You don't want to be lumped in with crazy socialists and we don't want to be lumped in with crazy school shooters.

The fact is, school shootings are more common now than they were in the past, but they're still rare in the big picture.

As far as training, the issue you run into there is who's in charge of the training? Who decides what's sufficient training? To go to the most commonly used comparison, people are trained to drive but there are still accidents. People still do illegal stuff like running red lights and being intoxicated. The argument being made here is that just because a law is on the books doesn't mean it's followed. And training doesn't fix mental issues. If somebody decides they're going on a shooting spree nothing is going to change that. It sucks, but that's what it is. If I'm in a situation where that's happening I'd rather be around armed people than panicked people. And I would prefer it if that mentally ill person didn't have to undergo training to get that firearm. It means they're more likely to make mistakes.

Hey, I could be a hunter, except my parents were married.

Both Lincoln and John Chafee used to propose a bill to ban the private ownership of handguns. Five year prison term. Senator John Chafee has been dead for twenty years now.

Booker is a toady for Elitists. He's almost worth the time spent discussing him.

Good to know that he is proposing this rubbish.

Change the date on that 26 year old article from 92 to 2019 and it reads like it was written yesterday.

    I guess somethings never change.

some things never change, the sheeple bleet about control while knowing nothing about the topic. much less that their talking points are recycled from 100 year old anti-gun propaganda just tweaked for today.
