The horses against Tanks never happened. It was German propaganda. Polish troops fought on all fronts in the European theater in WW2. There is a Polish military cemetery that can be seen from the Monastery on Monte Casino in Italy, they died fighting to take the Heights. They fought in France, were part of the Market Garden assault in Holland.

In the 1920's Poland defeated a Soviet army invading to turn Poland Communist. Stalin led one of the Soviet armies and never forgot, thus the soviets allowed the Germans to destroy the Polish resistance in Warsaw in WW2 instead of helping them.
