yes, it does have the bayonet lug. i tried looking up the serial number for a date but i cannot find any info on it. someone told me is is more than likely 1988-1990 production. not sure if thats true or not. i just dont know which one to keep and which one to let go.

I am older than you and used the A-1. Does the military issue A-2 have the screw in the front instead of the take down pin? I know the early civilian Colt AR-15 had them too.

The 1980s old school AR15s from Colt had the screw on one end, the take down pin in the other. I doubt that the military issue M16A2 had a screw as it wasn't necessary.

Nice! I'd keep the Colt , especially since it has a 1:7 barrel and a big plus if that's a real Colt scope. Parts are everywhere. Doubt you (or I) will be going on any covert missions deep behind enemy lines , or burning thru a few hundred round on full-auto between cleanings , so the lack of the currently 'mandatory to be tacti-kool' piston actuation is no big deal.

Ain't being picky but I remember them being 1:12 twist barrels. Longer 223 bullets than the M193 would keyhole like nothing else.

I can assure you that the A2 does have two push pins. As for serial numbers being posted online....I’m not paranoid and I don’t wear tin foil hats. That whole fear of posting serial numbers is an old wives tale

I agree, I never worry about posting a serial number. If you do have a screw as your pivot pin and the receiver was built for a push pin you can convert it to push pin.

OP said it was 1:7 , good for 68gr bullets. Most are 1:8 or 1:9.

Originals were 1:12.

I bought a Colt H bar AR 15A2 back in the 80s when they first came out. They did not have two push pins. The second one was a permanently attached and was used as a hinge so that the upper can swing away from the lower when the first push pin was removed. Colt was getting politically correct back then and maybe their reason for doing that was they did not want their AR 15s getting too modular. Also it came with 2 twenty round Colt magazines that had spacer in them limiting them to 5 or 10 rounds ( I don't remember which) Fortunately the spacer was easily removed by disassembling the mag and returning the magazine to its intended capacity.

I was in the military back then when the M16A2 was replacing the A1. The M16A2 came with 2 push pins.

As of now colt ar 15s come with 2 push pins and no magazine limiters.
