Look for a used S&W sport or PSA in the classifieds. $400ish.

As stated above, the classifieds here are a good place to find an AR.

No time to read thread, but for fuck's sake, if he doesn't want to "build", get a complete upper and a complete lower online, and DONE - $400.

The FTF/cash aspect makes that a challenge though. You gotta watch the classifieds.

Thanks all for the replies! This guy is not a builder for sure. And he agrees with me; get a FTF deal while you still can. He should of bought an AR long ago when there was less derision and lots of supply. He didn’t.

I just want my AR to be worth what I paid for it when Barry was President.

My post was more about the OP’s “panic” comment though.

The OP asked about a cash, FTF purchase.

He CAN find that, but it takes patience, and watching classifieds.
Lots of people certainly try to get close to what they paid for them. You can usually tell when someone bought their rifle by the price they are asking. LOL

Even though I could use the money, I'm not "giving" my rifles away. Prices are SO low now that you're going to have a tough time recouping what you sunk into one.

Shouldn't be a problem to find one for around $400-$500 though.

I have more ARs than I can shoot but mine are keepers, so I told him to keep his eyes open for an over the counter name-brand AR, such as FN, Colt, S&W, SIG. Not a Ruger fan due to their flash hider.
Any other “common” readily-found brands he should look for and ballpark price to consider paying?

Realize this is a widely generic request, but I haven’t been in the AR market since forever and have no recent market experiences.

    TIA
If he is looking for used the classifieds are worth keeping an eye on. I would look for a brand name where the quality is known. If you see a ar that fits the criteria I would look online for what that gun goes for new then work from there. If I am getting a brand name but generic used gun I would probably offer $50-60 below what I would be paying for it new.

For instance..... If I found a place online with a current stock of new Ruger ar’s for $460 shipped I would offer $400 for a used one. I think that is fair to you because it is used and you don’t know what it has been through.... but also fair to the seller who will recoup a good amount of their initial investment while having fun with the gun. And to be honest it is a buyers market right now from what I have seen. Like him or hate him..... Trump has us spoiled right now over what the firearm market would be like if Hillary was president.

There are other things to take into consideration though. If you are both pa residents and doing a ftf you would want to take into consideration if you are going through a ffl or not. If the person will sell it to you because a ltcf without going through a ffl that is $30 or so saved right there. Something to consider when buying used over new.
