Default Cheap rifle, cheap scope, shoots great!

About 2 1/2 years ago I bought an Mossberg 100atr in a wal-mart in McMinnville, TN just cause it was $244.63 I got it in .30-06. I put an old steel waever k-4 scope on it and killed a OK 8 pointer in TN, last summer I bought a Simmons Prosport Master series 3-9x40 scope and mounted it on the 100atr. At the WCSA range in Hyner I sighted the combo in with Federal Power-Shok 150 grain softpoints I bought in Clearfield wal-mart last October $10.27 a box, and low and behold it really does shoot between 1 and 1 1/4 inch 3 shot groups very consistently , not bad for all low frills stuff bought at wal-mart.

Thumbs up Re: Cheap rifle, cheap scope, shoots great!

If It's putting meat on the table how bad could it be? I've killed more deer with a
$189.00 mossberg than with any of my"high dollar"stuff. Good hunting.

Here is my observations with "Wally World Ammo". IF you want cheap stuff to just plink or if you hunt and 1.25 or 3 inches at 100 yards if good enough for you then buy it up. BUT if you want good ammo that will shoot the way it should buy from somewhere else. I point to the case of my brothers rifle. He got a new CZ 550 American in .243 Winchester. With wal-mart ammo that thing was only good for 1 or 2 inch groups at 100 yards. We got some other ammo at a local gun shop and paid more and that ammo shot a .5 inche group at 100 yards. Keep in mind it all all Remington Core-Lokt .243 WInchester ammo. MY theory is that Walmart buys in bulk and the quality is not a good compared to smaller orders placed by smaller companies. Just my 2 cents worth.

Please keep in mind that I'm talkng about a CHEAP rifle with CHEAP ammo and a CHEAP scope, I believe that considering the rifle is .30-06, not a varmint caliber, and the whole set up
cost about $325 brand new including scope and rings,1 inch groups with an occasional 1 1/4 incher is quite good indeed. Very few rifles will shoot 1/2 inch groups REGULARLY with the best hand loads using weighed and spun bullets and hand weighed charges so this degree of accuracy can't be expected from a $244 dolar rifle.
