Question Taurus Model 82 Cylinder Locking Up

I currently have a Taurus 82 that needs some fixing. It’s six shot 38 special revolver, and a bit of an oddball. I contacted Taurus and they could not locate the serial number. They claim that it was not imported by Taurus USA so cannot perform the repair themselves.

I’m having an issue where the cylinder locks up at one specific charge hole. It’s always the same one and the problem usually occurs after I’m about 6 shots in at the range. After firing and pulling double action to begin rotation to fire again the cylinder locks and cannot rotate. It cannot rotate by pulling the hammer back as well. The cylinder must be opened and re-aligned. On occasion it has taken significant force to even open the cylinder. I also notice some free rotation when the cylinder is closed without firing. I can rotate the cylinder slightly back and forth when it’s locked into position with the forcing cone.

Any information on how to fix this or any parts needed would be appreciated. Any one in the chester county area want a pet project?

I had to link to the photos from mobile. These show the back of the cylinder as well as the paw and firing pin.

humm, nothing obvious wrong. I was thinking a timing tooth on the bad chamber would stick out but from the pics they look the same.

Yes. I cannot see anything obviously damaged. I can occasionally replicate the issue dry firing. The frequency of the problem happpening increases with live fire.

Wouldn’t that create a problem in all of the positions of the cylinder and not just one. The issue only presents when rotating from one position on the cylinder.

yea I would think that but, unless I can look at it in person, its my guess. None of the primers out of pocket on the fired cases?
