I shot a few country pigeons while I was dove hunting on a farm. They tasted just as good since they eat the same things. Just bigger.

Note: I would not recommend trying this in Philadelphia.

You’re supposed to shoot the bird.

As a non-hunter that’s all I know about Dove hunting. Go ahead, ask me what I know about deer hunting.
Let's not forget there are still species of tropical penguins living in the Galapagos.

One more tip. Doves can see you so camo yourself and try and get into some heavy cover. And one of the main thing they see is your face staring up at them. I got many more doves in close when I started wearing a camo mesh head covering.

OK maybe one more tip. Dove decoys work. I got six and my hunting friend was laughing at me when I brought them out saying they wouldn't work. We set them up close in the field and while we were taking cover a dove came out of nowhere and landed in with the decoys. Neither of us would shoot a dove on the ground (and it was so close it would have been hamburger) so we started jumping around and yelling at it to fly away. the dove was clearly confused and sat there for a while. We were laughing so hard when it took off it got away.

Ditto on camo and cooler (for doves and your soda). Take along a zip-lock bag to put the breasts in. And they are fast! Take your time aiming, don't panic. Crossing shots harder than going away. Doves have a purposeful flying style (like they're late for work), different than blue jays and robins. They are fun. Good Luck.
