A do all optic for an AR-10?
I'm in the process of putting the finishing touches on my AR-10 and I need an optic of some sort. Given that I started off wanted a FAL, I envisioned this AR-10 as more of battle rifle than a precision or long distance shooter. With that in mind I'm looking for a sort of do it all optic. Something that will work for close in targets (say 3-25m) as well longer medium range - out to about 600m.
Variable power, fixed power, I don't care. I'm leaning more towards variable power as that will aid in close in target acquisition. I'd prefer some kind of lighted reticle.
The two main ones I've been eyeing are the Trijicon ACOG 308 3.5x35 or the Trijicon TR-24 Accupoint 1-4x24 but I'm open to other ideas.
Budget is about $1000 but I won't yell and scream if something is cheaper.
Any thoughts?

I was going to say that PSA has the Vortex Strike Eagle 1-8 and mount as a package deal for $300.00 this week which is a really good scope and deal but you have a much higher budget. I haven't used anything that was over $350.00 in the scope department because I never had the need so I cannot comment on the ones you mentioned other then they are both proven. I know personally on a .308 rifle I would want more then 3.5 or 1-4 since the round can stretch it's legs.

I second the vote for a nice variable 1-6 or 1-8x, illuminated, FFP scope.
I'm only here for the wood c-rings.

I would be checking out the Burris XTR 2 line at Natchez. They are running a really good sale on them and you will have enough left for a quality mount (larue, adm, Midwest)
Vortex viper 1x6 had been on sale at dsg for around 5-600$as well

I put a Leupold 1.25-4x20 VX-R Patrol on my .223. Motion activated fire dot, ranging features, 10 MIL circle. Reasonably fast close, still enough magnification for old eyes at moderate distance.

I have a Vortex 2.5-10x. I really like the 10x at 300 yards but 2.5 would not too good at 3 meters.
