Well, I can say that it wasn't made in 1912 as it has a patent date of 1913 on the slide. Also, the grips don't seem to match a gun that would be that old.

Are there any other markings on it? Any other numbers?

Also, for the more knowledgeable 1911 folks, wouldn't it have been parkerized? The "wear" marks don't seem to be correct if it would have been parkerized.

From the pictures you have a nice historic piece, but it was not made in 1912, since it has a 1913 patent date on the slide. Are there any markings on the magazine (not clip).

Some of the most knowledgeable 1911 collectors hang out here. https://forums.1911forum.com/

In my humble opinion that pistol looks 100% righteous.

One of the few times I disagree with you. IMO, it's very doubtful that's the original finish.

If that's a 6-digit SN, it would have been made around Oct/Nov 1918 and would have had the rougher and somewhat fragile "black army" finish which could flake off, but I don't think that's what this gun has. Looks more like crudely-applied stove paint like the British suncorite. I could be wrong but would need more pics.

Black Army is what I was thinking. This finish is not very durable and takes on wear marks just like the one pictured.
