Re: Mosin sacrilege
As for scoped Mosims there was a Chicom Type 53 with bent bolt, scope and Archangel stock listed in the PAFOA classifieds for several months. I think the guy was asking $450 for the setup.

Re: Mosin sacrilege
You would take a $3-400 rifle and turn it into a $150 rifle, after you spend $400 on a scope and mount.

Re: Mosin sacrilege
Most of those Russian rifles are junk to start with, but I have to go with the guys that say look for a cut up rifle. I have done a lot of sporters in my time, but always used a "Parts gun" to start the build. Like the Japanese Arisakas, the Russians will hit a high point and pretty much stay there. Only the rare ones will increase.

Re: Mosin sacrilege
Just to put this in perspective, we are talking about a rifle who's value is probably $400 max, likely less. Its cost to me was only $150 and I don't plan to sell it, so it's value is kind of irrelevent. I do not consider it a very lucrative retirement investment.
Furthermore, the value of the scope would not decrease much. Whether it was installed on the rifle or not, it could still be liquidated. So it isn't as if the money spent on the scope is lost forever.
Also, I can easily hold 4-5 moa with the iron sights on this carbine, and I have a hard time believing I'm just that rock solid that a little magnification would not show improvement.
My main concern here was diminishing a historical firearm, not decreasing resale value. My goal was just to have a little more fun with a rifle I already enjoy, not to shoot groups a quarter of the size.
But thanks anyway for your rude reply, 'genius.'
