New Zealand buyback
Story I just read on CNN.com indicated how successful New Zealand’s gun buyback program has been. They have so far collected just over ten thousand weapons from the estimated 1.2 million in circulation.
I guess the law calls for all semi-autos to be turned in and they indicated they had no idea how many of the 1.2 million were semi-auto.
Conservatively guessing that maybe 20% were semi, that means they need 240,000 turned in and they have gotten 10,000? 4% compliance sounds like a huge success to me.....
Keep this in mind when you speak to your neighbors, friends and political reps. Bans don’t work and buybacks don’t work.

Re: New Zealand buyback
You don't need to turn to NZ to prove that point, just look at NY and their Safe Act.

Also I believe Connecticut had less than 10% compliance on their “Assault Rifle” registration law from many years ago.

Re: New Zealand buyback
Another point to remember is that years ago you could mail order surplus M1 carbines, 30 round mags and cases of milsurp ammo from the back of Field and Stream with no background check, no age limit, no nothing. Send a money order and it showed up on your doorstep, a wood stocked AR for arguments sake.
No school, or mall, or movie shootings. So it’s no easy access to firearms that caused this.
Something changed with society...

Re: New Zealand buyback
I'm sure everyone is going to line up to get a $100 gift card for their $1000 AR. Sounds like a great deal.

Re: New Zealand buyback
Buyback programs are merely precursors for higher levels of confiscation. They will be portrayed as reasonable methods. Then those who do not comply will be identified as dangerous so further steps can be sought.

Re: New Zealand buyback
I will not go into all the circus that has been going on in New Zealand, but the confiscation has been a debacle and run like a clown show by the cops.
I guess I always look for the upside in anything and that has been I've seen it's woke a lot of people in NZ up. You wouldn't understand this unless you spent the time there I have but being isolated as it is and being a nice country overall, a lot of the people had seen themselves as distant from all the world's issues to the point of being arrogant about it and also they are a bit passive about their own internal politics.
