Re: 2019 Archery season freezer candidates
I finally got a few daytime pics of the non typical.
Could be anything from 13 to 15 points based on a few different pic angles.
It's not a big or wide spread rack but I'd send a bolt his way if I could.
He's running with the small but also legal 6 point
Let me know if the video opens

Video works here. It cracks me up how they're buddies right now but in a few months they'll be trying to kill each other.

Re: 2019 Archery season freezer candidates
Yep. I haven't seen the herd of 4 again but I suppose they will also go their own ways soon.
I've probably seen a half dozen doe so far. I'm sure there are more but that's all I've had on camera.
Salt block has to leave in a couple days so I'll see if it affects backyard traffic.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Re: 2019 Archery season freezer candidates
That non-typical is a very cool buck. While he is much smaller, the little fella with the split brow is my second favorite. I have my cameras out for about a week. Hoping to check this upcoming weekend.

Re: 2019 Archery season freezer candidates
The split brow seems to be genetic.
I have seen them.back here for years although theres been a gap for a few years. I shot one in 96.

It's been 3 or 4 years since I've seen the last one.
My daughter found a shed of a 12 point maybe 14 years ago. another split brow.

The 2 youngsters have deformed left and right main beams. I think I have a few pics of them earlier this year.
A few other buck have oddly shaped racks.
My friends say it's likely a uranium leak. Ha.
I.put another cam out too, hopefully for a close up of a few of these.
Cheap camera if it gets stolen.Last edited by 27hand; August 18th, 2019 at 08:15 PM.

That's really cool! I enjoy trimming around stands, setting up cameras, checking cameras, managing some small food plots, scouting etc...more than I do hunting sometimes.

Re: 2019 Archery season freezer candidates
An update to the deer I have locked in a barn.
This morning about 9, I was going over the hill to check the SD cards and saw this guy looking at me.
I eased back, got a camera and edged my way to the hillside. 1 of the 3 bucks spooked but I got a vid of him licking himself.
The vid didn't load but here he is. Ill see if I can get that vid onto flickr.

The first one that busted me but held his ground was this guy. 2 pics

I didn't see the third one till I spooked them all.
The one youngster is legal I believe as he has no brow tine and we need 3 up in 2B. I'd pass on him anyway.
So far, I have the non typical and his young and legal 6 point brother.
The 11 point and one of his buddies looks marginally legal.
The 3 today had at least these 2 legals but the one that split had head jewelry too..
All three this AM

I'll edit or add anything I find on the other SD cards.
Hope they hang out for a few more weeks.
This was an enlarged pic of that non typical.
Small deer and rack but man.

It was nice to see this guy still around this morning. The buck traffic is slowing down considerably. 2 weeks.

Re: 2019 Archery season freezer candidates
Here we are a week from early archery.
Shot the crossbow a few times out to 50 although I doubt I would take a shot at that range. I prefer those 10 to 15 yarders.
General prep is done. I put the ladder to the stand up a week ago. No zip line again this year.
I also did some changes to glass and rings for a few of my rifles.
I added a 3 X 15 Leupold VX5 HD to my Savage 111 doe rifle in .300 Win Mag and need to work up a few 180 and 190 grain loads. I put a few rounds together to make this rifle a 100 yd gun untill I get serious about trying to get a pet load that works at 200. This will be an elk rifle, maybe for next year.
The pump .06 is still a sub 2" inch gun but not by much. Those 2 rifles are are good at 100 as they sit.
The Marlin 336 in 30-30 will get a new set of rings for the leupold 3X9 VX1 and the Ithaca 12 ga Deerslayer will get new rings and a 3X9 leupold.
Old Mans rifle doe season is 24 thru 26 Oct so if I don't connect in the back yard, I'll head to Avella.
There is less and less deer activity so I spread my cams out to see if I'm missing any walk bys.
All in all, I'm pretty close to just climbing a tree, hoping the garbage truck spooks either the nontypical, the 11 point or any one of 3 decent 8's that were back there earlier.
If not, any decent doe will suffice.
Good luck to you other early archery guys looking for freezer candidates.Opinions are like anal apertures. They all stink but mine.

Re: 2019 Archery season freezer candidates
I'll be happy if I just get a doe. Been busy spending every weekend practicing with my bow and tree saddle that I haven't actually had any time to go out and take a peek. Lots of new stuff to learn.
