If it fits your hand, hell yes.

I like the small safety. Easy to flick off but nearly impossible move it by accident unlike the big paddle of a safety on my full size 9. My M&P 40 2.0 compact has no safety as it the bedside defender. TLR8 equipped.

Re: Is the Shield Money Well Spent or Not
I just picked up a new 1.0 Shield that was on sale at a local shop for $249. The only difference between the 1.0 and 2.0, that I am aware of, is the grip texture and the 2 is supposed to have a better trigger.
It has been to the range twice so far with a mix of factory and hand loads. All worked well and I am happy with the accuracy. I also had a generic OWB slide holster that fit it and wore it to run some errands with good comfort.
I am surprised it took me this long to get on the Shield bandwagon. You should be quite pleased with one if you decided to pick one up.

Re: Is the Shield Money Well Spent or Not
Own both a G19 and three Shields - Shield 9, Shield 45 and Shield 9 Performance Center. I did a two day training at Valor Ridge with the Shield 9 a few years ago - not one issue over two solid days of shooting. I use the G19 for USPSA Production and have not had one issue. At the end of the day, I use the Shield 9 as my daily carry +1 mag using the 8 round mags. As other say, highly reliable and easily concealed with my Desanctis Cozy Partner IWB black holster. I carry this and the spare mag in the summer with cargo shorts and a tee shirt with absolutely no issue. My vote is for the Shield 9. However, the Shield 45 is in close second. Downside is the stippling of the grip is rough on your skin and it is noticeably heavier and doesn't have the ammunition capacity of the Shield 9's. IMHO

Re: Is the Shield Money Well Spent or Not
Late to the party, so this may be moot, but...
I carry a 1911, so I am not anti-thumb safety. That said:
I don't think a striker gun with the Shield's existing safeties needs one - if you follow proper procedures. Don't see the need to add another mechanical failure point with no significant safety gain.
Mrs.K's first gun was a Shield 9. Shot fine for a baby gun, but was just too small for my hand.
