Re: Looking at guns at work bad?
Thanks to you guys, anyone need a desktop support guy within 20 mi of Pittsburgh? Let me know and I'll apply at your company if there's an opening. This will obviously never happen again.

Re: Looking at guns at work bad?
Section 402.(e) In which his unemployment is due to his discharge or temporary suspension from work for willful misconduct connected with his work, irrespective of whether or not such work is “employment” as defined in this act;
It will depend on weather UC determines if your web search was "willful misconduct". The fact that they never tried to work with you and give you a warning or counsel you I think will be in your favor.
I was let go once for performance issues and in the determination this part of the law was quoted as the reason why I qualified as my lack of performance was not deemed to be "willful misconduct".

Eventhough you were in the wrong the punishment seems a bit extreme in my opinion.Sorry to hear and good luck going forward.

What is the company name and/or industry?
Also....were you reported by a person or did IT lower the boom?

well that sucks.
I dont have any suggestions for the P-burgh area but in the H-burg area, the state is hiring IT peeps non-stop. Its generally a contractor position vs. a state employee gig but its a job. Get your LinkedIn profile updated and start hitting the job websites.

Yeah, firing is a bit extreme for such an infraction. I would have given him a green slip (notice of disciplinary action) and re-instruct, end of matter. The green slip is nothing more than documentation to build a case if that becomes necessary.These are the procedures for Septa employees. Good luck to you in whatever direction you choose.

The silver lining is that its not a bad time to be looking for a job. Might even get an upgrade.
