HR is probably too busy surfing the web at work.

Not understanding the attitude in the thread towards HR...

It’s always cheaper to rehabilitate a current employee whenever possible, than it is to fire and hire a replacement. Among other things, HR are usually responsible for the final decision on terminations, (i.e., they make sure its a ‘good fire’ to minimize liability and wrongful termination lawsuits for the company). HR and Legal partner on law suits when they occur... often, it’s cheaper for the company to settle and pay off the termed employee than fight in court.

HR often has to clean up the mess after Management screws up with bad hires or poor performance management of sub-par employees.

And don’t get me started on workman’s compensation, which is often used as a license to get paid to sit on the couch all day, nursing the carpal tunnel in your pinky finger. For every legitimate WC claim there are countless losers trying to game/milk the system.

In my time working in places that have an actual HR Dept I have found they do what management ask of them. Yes they do stuff like answer insurance questions and such. But rehabilitate? Not so much.

Firing an exployee over something like this is poor policy. Firearms are owned and used legally by hundreds of thousands of law abiding people everyday. Guns are a positive topic....guns are used by soldiers/law enforcement to defend our nation and protect our communities, they're used by mothers for home defence, by licenced to carry individuals for self defence, and so many other examples. Again very poor policy.

This has nothing to do with guns. It's theft of service, a very fireable offense.

Yes and no. This 'theft of services' is a common occurrence in today's world. The question for me is what would they do if he was looking at houses or cars, etc. Stand alone it is nada but with some history to get to this point could be another story.

That's something we just don't know.
Could be the OP was a serial abuser, could be that that he just got caught by someone in a pissy mood.
