Default Do not have an FFL - how to sell firearms on any online site

    Hello.
I am new to this forum.
Maybe someone can help me out with this.
I would like to thin out my collection a bit.
I took a few of my pistols to local shops, but they do not want to give me even half that I want for them.
So, I decided to possibly sell them on Gun Broker or another online site myself.
Not having an FFL license, myself here are the steps taken as I understand them.
With any sale I would have to make sure and restrictions be it state or local are followed.

After the sale I would request a copy of the FFL license holder I am sending it to for the transfer.
Receive the copy of the FFL and verifying it being legitimate.
Pack and ship the firearm to that FFL for transfer to the buyer.
Out of my hands from there.

If an FFL holder actually buys my firearm still receive a copy of their license, verify it, and then send the firearm to them.
Again, out of my hands from there.

I am correct how this is done?
    Please let me know.
    Thanks,
    Karl

Many FFL's will not receive firearms from a non-FFL.

The last out of state purchase I made with an individual was from FL and the seller took the pistol to his FFL, who sent it to mine. I would expect the sending FFL to have fees similar to the receiving FFL's.

Post what you have to sell in the classifieds here, you might get some offers if your prices are reasonable.
Transfers of pistols would require an FFL to do the paperwork. With long guns not so much, there is a bill of sake available on this site.

It is perfectly legal for you to sell your private firearms on any site be it Gunbroker or here on PAFOA.

After the sale I would request a copy of the FFL license holder I am sending it to for the transfer.
Receive the copy of the FFL and verifying it being legitimate.
Pack and ship the firearm to that FFL for transfer to the buyer.
Out of my hands from there.

This ^ is the correct way to do it. Also, put a note in the package telling the FFL who it is going to be transferred to and their phone number and/or email address so the FFL can contact them. You will probably be asked to send a copy of your DL with the firearm so the receiving FFL has that info for his Acquisition/Disposition log

If an FFL holder actually buys my firearm still receive a copy of their license, verify it, and then send the firearm to them.
Again, out of my hands from there.

This ^ is also the correct way to do it. Again, you will need to send a copy of your DL with the firearm so the receiving FFL has that info for his Acquisition/Disposition log

That said, as mentioned above, there are some FFL's who will not accept a shipment from a non-FFL. I won't get into an argument as to why they do this, it is their call and they are allowed to do it if they want. Personally, I have no problem doing that, I've received many firearms from non-FFLs in the 30 years I've had my license and have NEVER had a problem.

You can also send a bill of sale with the gun if you want or the buyer requests it.

If the receiving FFL will not accept the firearm from a non-FFL, then you will need to find a local FFL who will ship it for you. You can have the buyer pay for this, you can pay for this or you can work a deal with the buyer to split the cost. In this case the shipping FFL will get the gun from you, enter it into his books and then ship it to the receiving FFL and log it out of his A/D book.

No matter who ships it, insure it for what it would cost to replace it, not for what you sold it for.

If you are shipping it, and it is a handgun, you CAN NOT ship it via USPS, only a FFL can do that. The cost of you shipping by FedEx or UPS can be quite expensive, that's why most people have a FFL ship it for them via USPS as it is more cost effective (IMO). Also, you will have to have a copy of the receiving FFLs license to show to the UPS or FedEx people to prove it is going to a licensed dealer.

Lastly, NO gun shop will ever give you what your gun is worth, they will typically offer 40% to 60% of the Blue Book of Gun Values value (author - Fjestad). Their reasoning is that they need to make money on it and unless it is a really hot selling gun, they can't ask a lot and they don't want it sitting around not making them any money.
