Default Any hearing aid recommendations for octogenarian?

We want to get a pair of rechargeable hearing aids for a woman in her 80's. We have no clue about brands, features, quality.

Anyone here researched this, know of a good unit? i know we've got old farts, guys who shot out their ear drums at the range, and many of you have older relatives.

    Help a brother out here . . .

I'm 100% deaf in my right ear, and 50% in my left. After a LOT of trial and error, I settled on the Phonak Cros system, they work well enough for me. It's all about expectation, I've found that no hearing aids duplicate natural hearing.

The PHonak are over $2000 per hearing aid. I have them, but my hearing problem is I have great difficulty distinguishing B- C-D-E-G-T-V-M-N and more. Plus people don't pronunciate, speak at a monotone, fast etc.etc. I have to tell people talk slower.

I was issued GN ReSound LiNX Quattro Rechargeable Hearing Aids by the VA they are behind the ear, bluetooth ready (great for the phone) and the best one I ever received from the Army no damn batteries to change you just use the charging station. I have a had a few and so fa these have been the best for sound and maintenance as well as keeping charged. But to be fair all hearing loss is not the same and an audiologist can best determine needs and functions required.

Everyone with hearing problems says people don’t enunciate. . I just got a chuckle out of that. Yeah I’m half deaf with permanent ringing. I do a lot of deciphering in my head. I make people repeat all the time.

I have very good hearing and will attest that people don't enunciate. They mumble, low talk and do that throaty growl thing that teenaged girls do. I'm constantly making my daughters repeat what they say so I can understand them.

Modern films and television shows have sound that sucks. Proof...tune in shows from the 50s and 60s, and movies from that era. No trouble understanding the actors.

Here is one link to peruse, there are also others on Consumer Reports:

Also check out the Personal Sound Amplification Products (PSAPs) mentioned at the bottom of the article.

IANAL. I don't give legal advice. I'm only stating my OPINION.
(Did I really need to say that on an Internet forum? LOL)

I have two Phonak units for 4 years now, and they work great. There maybe an opportunity to get a good deal through a Costco membership. They sell Phonak and their own brand. Their brand is excellent too. My sister has them and she saved about 20% from what I paid. They offer good support too and free hearing tests. I will br going there for replacements if and when needed.
