Anymore , the first thing cops ask if you have any drugs or weapons , or needles , or any number of ridiculous items as seen on TV.
I've never been asked any of those questions. In 58 years of driving.

In Annapolis one time, I was asked if I had any hand grenades or bazookas.

It also depends on the dispatch center too, if they do a stop and call it out, we run the tag, then the name on the reg, then if they have any warrants, and LTCF, then the officer gets notified before they even get to the car.

Stopped a year or so ago by a PA State Trooper for driving over the speed limit. After license and registration, his first words were we are being recorded and do I have my weapon with me? I assume he was alerted when he ran my tag? Told him it was on my hip and asked how he wanted to handle it. He said just don't touch it and there won't be any issues, so it went pretty smoothly from there. Other than he mentioned he would have appreciated me telling him right up front that I was carrying.

Since PA is not must inform, I generally will not bring up firearms since I know I don't plan to touch it and I don't print, and I am not expecting to get asked to step out of the car. If I were asked to step out and believed I was going to get searched, I would treat it differently.

The Trooper and I had a brief discussion of carry guns while he wrote me up for 4 mph over or some such so that there wouldn't be any points. All in all, a pretty decent encounter. This was the first and only time I was ever asked about weapons, so maybe most cops don't care or decide I don't look like the type to cause trouble, but they definitely know you've got a LTCF from what I have experienced.

Told this before , but once when I got pulled over on my motorcycle , I took my D/L out of my wallet , the PSP trooper saw my PA-LTCF , stepped back , unholstered , but kept it at his side and screamed "DON'T MOVE! WHERE'S THE GUN?!?"
