I usually avoid online petition signing. Occasionally one will come up that I will support. This is one of them. Kim Stolfer points out a fundamental flaw in a White House document claiming that the Second Amendment "gives" a right to keep and bear arms. The implication is that the right exists at governments whim and that if the 2A were gone, the grant of the right would go away too. That is a fundamentally flawed error in the understanding of the Constitution and the petition is intended to call attention to that flaw.

Signed and sent. Interesting how wording can give away one's beliefs. There is an ignorance (and arrogance) at work when someone expresses a constitutionally protected right as a granting of an allowance. Some would likely defend it, holding that it is semantics. No, it is a tell.

I would have expected that language in a Moms Demand or Every Town propaganda piece. Seeing it in a White House document is a bigger problem. I think it is intentional. Even if it was a mistake, the mistake is just as dangerous to our freedoms because it means that those in power do not even understand how the government that they are managing is even supposed to work.

I was able to sign using the link provided in the website. It brought me right to the standard WH petition webpage and signed it there. I haven't the tech savvy to even guess at the problem. Thanks for trying.

No problem this time, but it took forever for the confirmation email to show up in my mailbox.

But, all done now.
