    Default Short barrel AR question

    S! All

Just daydreaming and haven't looked into the real possibilities of owning yet but.. Would it be better to start with a full-size AR and then attempt to buy the short upper or buy one of the pistols and then re-classify when one adds a stock??

All depends on how you look at it. If you buy an ar with a 20in barrel and then get a 14 or 11 in upper you now have a cqb firearm and a battle rifle on the same platform. The problem with pistol ar's is some manufactures configure them in such a way that you cant put a stock on them ( bushmaster for example ). I would go with a rifle first and buy a shorty later.

luckyned7" full agreement with ForceinPA about the pistols being made not to take buttstocks, some MFGs do that.

When i did my SBR a buncha years ago, I used my first AR I ever bought back in '93, was a 20", and it hasn't seen over a 11.5" barrel for at least 10 yrs.

start with the rifle, go thru the process to SBR it, and get yerself a nice 11.5 upper to drop on it, you'll be golden....plus you'll have the other upper to sell, or put back on the rifle.
