UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
Dunhams is having a sale on UMC 250 round pacs. I was thinking about stocking up. However, I have never used UMC ammo. How does it compare to WWB at wally world?
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.

Re: UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
i've run somwhere close to 15,000 rounds of it through my glock 17 (9mm).
the only issues i have had were 2 rounds that had the bullet pressed too far into the case. i just didn't shoot those two. otherwise, no problems, no failures. i find it to be about equal to WWB as far as both dirtiness and accuracy. i highly recommend it as practice ammo.
you can get the 250 round packs of 9mm on the web for a little under $50 per pack.
are you buying 9mm? if so, how much is dunhams selling them for? might have to take a trip to dunhams...Last edited by LittleRedToyota; October 19th, 2008 at 09:03 PM.

Re: UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
I had a few issues with some underpowered rounds in 9mm and .223 from them causing cycling problems but overall it is cheap clean plinking ammo.

Re: UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
at Dicks this weekend they had a sale (on .45 at least) 15.99 for 50 rds, not awesome but not too bad. I've yet to shoot some, though - that's what they make monday mornings for, right?

Re: UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
I have fired about 6000 rounds through my Glock and another 4000 through my Sig and I had only one bad round. It was during a training class and the round got stuck while it was entering the chamber. One guy was a gunsmith and he popped the round out and we saw that it had a bulge in the side of the casing.
At least in 9mm, the price of UMC can be hard to beat. Dick's often sells it for less than the cost of Wolf ammo. I just picked up 1000 rounds of 9mm today for $160. It is not as powerful as higher quality training ammo such as Lawman but it also does not cost as much and it does the job, so I am happy with it.

Re: UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
it can be a little softer than some loads. i've seen come compensated glocks that wouldn't run it...and recently learned of a 34 that wouldn't run it, at first.
That said, I've literally shot a good 7-8k rounds of it, and haven't had an issue with it. I think I might have had like 5 or 10 rounds with some distorted brass, that wouldn't feed. I'm happy with it, and will continue to use it unless alternative brass ammo is on sale.

Re: UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
Its good stuff! As sttaffy said, at Dick's Sporting goods UMC is on sale if you buy 10+ boxes. What I did was I went to Get Go, bought $150 in Dick's Gift Cards, used my Advantage Card and saved $0.30 per gallon on gas. $170 for 1000 rnds of 9mm + $0.30 off a gallon is litteraly a deal and half. Hope it helps!

Re: UMC Ammo -- your opinions needed
I love the stuff. I found it to be more accurate in my gun that WWB. I don't use WWB anymore since I think other ammo (like UMC) can be had just as cheep and it isn't total crap. UMC is about as dirty. Where WWB leaves a real black residue, the UMC is more like a brown. I've never had a problem with any of the rounds I've fired through my 1911 and M&P 40.
