    Default Article "Weirdest Wheelguns"

Came across this and found it interesting: "Here’s a look at 20 of the most interesting revolver designs from the past 200 years."

Pinfires are cool. Ammo with an exposed firing pin that can go off in pocket if you fall on it!

Weird? Try a pepperbox. Mark Twain's description of their use is apt.

Then there are all the late 19th century designs outside of the mainstream known examples like Colt, S&W and Remington. The Europeans had some really weird stuff as well. Think up the Nagant 1895 or Rast and Gasser 1898 model.

Have you read James Axler's "Deathlands" series? One of the main characters carries one. (Though James Axler is the pen name for I think at least 4 different authors.)

The LeMat replicas were some of the least working guns I've ever shot. LOL.

The hammer throw is so short, it is just about impossible to get the shotgun barrel to fire the percussion cap, and the mainspring on all the ones I'd ever handled was truly Herculean to pull back. Balance sucks and heavy as hell.

But for sheer coolness you can't get much higher on the scale.

Some of the percussion era guns are really amazingly odd. Sometimes it was because the designer was attempting to circumvent existing patents. The Rollin White patent on bored through cylinders was a huge issue in the Civil War, post CW era until the patent expired.

Now Howdah pistols are cool. Anyone seen a .577 Trantor? Yes, that is nearly a 20 gauge caliber revolver.
