I'm hoping for some good July 4th sales in order to celebrate what little independence we have left.

They can’t currently be enforced. They will need to win some court cases before that happens. So the laws are currently toothless and if the law is read properly by judges..... worthless.

Pittsburgh can’t enforce gun control laws until suits resolved – GOPUSA
PITTSBURGH (AP) — A county judge ordered Pittsburgh on Friday not to enforce firearms restrictions inspired by the deadly synagogue shooting in the city until lawsuits filed by gun owners are resolved, a decision reached after all parties agreed to the stay.

Attorney Eric Tirschwell of gun-control advocacy organization Everytown Law, who is representing the city for free, said the stay was “consistent with the city’s goal all along, which is to put this in front of the court, let the courts decide whether these ordinances are permissible under Pennsylvania law,” the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported .

Attorney Joshua Prince, who represents Firearms Owners Against Crime and the Allegheny County Sportsmen’s League, said he wanted the public to know that there would be no enforcement of the ordinances until a court rules on them.

“Of course depending on what that decision is, there is the possibility to ask the appellate courts to continue any stays, pending resolution by them,” he said.

The gun restrictions were approved in April after a mass shooting at Pittsburgh’s Tree of Life Synagogue that killed 11 worshippers.

Gun rights advocates are suing to get the laws overturned, noting Pennsylvania law forbids municipalities from regulating the ownership or possession of firearms and ammunition. Courts have thrown out previous municipal attempts at regulation.

The legislation restricts military-style assault weapons like the AR-15 rifle authorities say was used in the synagogue attack. It also bans most uses of armor-piercing ammunition and high-capacity magazines, and allows the temporary seizure of guns from people who are determined to be a danger to themselves or others.

    Another article about it.

    https://pittsburgh.cbslocal.com/2019...stay-lawsuits/

City Of Pittsburgh Agrees Not To Enforce Gun Control Legislation During Ongoing Court Proceedings
PITTSBURGH (KDKA) — Attention gun owners: the city of Pittsburgh’s tough and controversial gun restrictions are now on hold.

“We have decided that we will not enforce the bill, but instead let the courts decide whether they pass the legal hurdles,” Mayor Bill Peduto told KDKA political editor Jon Delano on Monday.

Several local gun owners, the Firearm Owners Against Crime, and the Allegheny County Sportsmen’s League had sued to prevent the city from enforcing the ban on certain firearms, including semi-automatic rifles and firearms that can shoot ten rounds or more.

The city made their concession at a status conference Monday morning with Senior Judge Joseph James at the courthouse.

The mayor says it doesn’t lessen his support for the measures.

“Not at all, not at all. In fact, what it does is allow both sides to present their side of this argument over whether or not the use of certain weapons in urban areas is something that can be regulated at the local level, or not,” Peduto said.

Second Amendment rights groups contend that only the state legislature can enact gun regulations, not individual municipalities.

“They tried to ban firearms back in 1993 and 1994 and we had to sue them,” said Kim Stolfer, head of the FOAC, on Jan. 15. “They lost. There is a consent decree that says they can’t do this.”

The mayor spoke at a conference of the American College of Preventive Medicine that later this week will hear from David Hogg, the outspoken 19-year-old former Stoneman Douglas High School student from Parkland, Florida.

    Why these doctors?

“Emergency room doctors, they are the ones that can tell you specifically that there are certain weapons that they cannot sew the wounds,” Peduto said. “You talk to police officers who show up at a scene, somebody will bleed to death before an ambulance will get there because the weapon that is being used is used on a battlefield.”

“We’re happy with the judge’s decision to stay the implementation and enforcement of the ordinances, and we look forward to challenging the constitutionality of these bills,” Joshua Prince, the attorney for the gun owners, told KDKA.

Prince says the judge is likely to schedule oral argument in September or October and make his decision before the end of the year.

But, in the meantime, the city will not be enforcing its new law.

The Rise Of Mass Knife Attacks Around The World Shows The Problem Isn't Guns. It's People
Authored by Daisy Luther via The Organic Prepper blog,

In China, where firearms are tightly restricted, it’s probably no surprise that those who want to hurt people found another way to do it. The dramatic rise of knife attacks around the world shows that the problem these days isn’t with guns. It’s with people.

Mass knife attacks have become so common over the years that a Chinese police department recently released a video to teach citizens how to defend themselves against knife-wielding assailants and it has gone viral, with 16 million views in just a few days. It has subtitles and some great advice that even I would be able to follow.

All humor aside, some folks in the US who want to do away with the Second Amendment are probably saying smugly, “Well, knife attacks are bad, but only people with GUNS can kill dozens of victims quickly.”

    Those folks would be wrong.

    For example…

In 2014, 33 people were killed and 130 more were injured when a group of men coordinated a terror attack using knives at a train station in southwest China’s Yunnan Province.

In 2015, fifty workers at a Chinese coal mine were killed in a coordinated knife attack. Fifty more workers were injured.

In 2016, a facility for the disabled was attacked by a man with a knife. He killed 15 people and injured 45, then later surrendered himself to police.

In 2017, 18 people walking down a city street were injured when a man attacked them with a knife

13 people were seriously injured by a knife-wielding assailant at a shopping mall in Beijing earlier this year. One woman died from her injuries.

This tells me that it isn’t really a problem with guns. It’s a problem with people.

Instead of school shootings, they have school knifings.

While in the United States, school shootings have become shockingly commonplace, what many don’t know is that in China, where gun control is strict, school knife attacks are a frequent threat. On the very same day as the Sandy Hook shooting in the United States, a man with a knife injured 22 children and one adult at a school in Chenpeng village in the southern province of Guangxi.

Knife attacks at schools in China are common. Last year, a man climbed over the wall of a kindergarten and attacked 11 students. None suffered life-threatening injuries.

In 2016, a man in the southern province of Hainan stabbed 10 children before killing himself, authorities said. And another man killed three students at a school in 2014 before jumping off a building.

Perhaps the worst spate of stabbings occurred in 2010 when attackers targeted schools on three consecutive days. (source)

Just last month, a man wielding a knife killed 9 children and injured 10 others outside a middle school where he says he was bullied.

This isn’t just a problem in China

There have been mass knife attacks all over the world.

In the UK, there has been a deadly knife attack every third day of 2018. In 2017, Met Police recorded 37,443 recorded knife offenses and 6,694 gun offenses. The problem is so bad that a judge has suggested banning the sale of large kitchen knives and that those who already have kitchen knives should file them down to avoid stabbings.

In 2016, two soldiers were attacked by a man with a knife in Belgium, and a few days ago, a prison inmate on day leave stabbed two police officers then took their guns and shot them.

Four people were injured and one was killed when a knife-wielding assailant attacked them in Paris last week.

These are just a few examples and I haven’t dug any further than the first page of Google. I could go on and on, but I think you get the point.

What happens if you take away guns

In each of these cases, something different was blamed.

Some of the attackers were shouting “Allahu Akbar” as they stabbed their victims.

Some of the attackers cited crippling stress.

Some of the attackers said they were bullied or mistreated.

Some of the attackers were mentally ill and had a history of psychological problems.

Some of the attackers had religious and ethnic differences from their victims.

One attacker just didn’t like disabled people.

You can’t fix people who want to harm others for their various reasons by taking away guns. You can only make it harder for the rest of us to defend ourselves against them.

Take away guns, and you get knives. Take away knives and you get improvised explosives. There is no way to take away the yen that some people have to kill others.

And if I am involved in a knife-fight, well, personally, I’d rather take a gun.

Thanks for posting that info...interesting that attorney Terchswell claims that the city's goal all along was to get the law in front of a judge and let the court decide if it is permissible. The way I understand things there is nothing more that a judge can rule or decide as that question has already been answered by state law

Like gun bearing is already answered by the 2nd amendment?
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Pro gun logic doesn't work. Pro gun slogans (e.g., "come and take them" , Molon labe " ) are just that, slogans. The only thing that will stop gun bans is to vote pro gun. At times we will have to vote for the lesser of two evils. People who sit at home on election day or vote for a third party candidate that has no hope of winning are giving the their vote to those who want to ban guns.

There's no doubt that an AR15 is an effective offensive and defensive firearm, but so are any number of other semi auto rifles (mini 14, AK, etc). The bottom line is, the AR15 will eventually be nationally banned. I'm sure others such as AKs will also be banned. It's going to happen sooner or later. Choosing pro 2A legislators and law makers will postpone it but at some point it's going to happen. The real question is what then? It'll be about 10-15 years before the biggest loser generation starts infiltrating higher political positions, when that happens the constitution, including the 2A will be as good as dead.
Without the 2A to defend the AR15s, it'll be on the AR15s to defend the 2A.
