This is "see, we are winning" pablum for their serfs to lap up and rally them to the cause.

Standard socialist/communist tactics require demonizing, isolating, and attacking their opposition. They need a war on something because they have no real facts or logic to support their disarmament agenda. So, they have chosen the NRA because it has been effective and, as an institution, is easier to attack with lies and propaganda. Not so easy to demonize each of their 5 million members.

Some of the offshoots or this attack on the NRA are more disturbing such as the elitist financial institutions and other crony capitalist businesses cutting off NRA funding or marketing sources and, emboldened, cutting off financing for firearms and ammunition manufacturers and dealers. NY State's banking and financial institutions regulators have already threatened to take action against banks who do not consider "reputational risk" in dealing with the NRA. This is not merely a private business matter, with that sort of government leverage in play. Some banks are even freezing then closing bank accounts of prominent conservative commentators citing that reason. It would not take much of a stretch to see banks cut off credit card purchases of firearms and ammo.

The NRA does need to get its shit together. While reading an NRA statement on how they are fine and this is shit stirred up by the advertising agency, I get a sky-is-falling email asking for money because they are about to go out of business. They need a consistent message.
