    Default Great Allegheny Passage

I’m heading on a bicycle ride from Pittsburgh to Cumberland MD with two overnights and camping each night. I see Maryland does not recognize PA’s permit. So can the firearm be unloaded when crossing into Maryland? Any other requirements?

Ummm… don't take a firearm, loaded or unloaded, into MD., unless you want to go to jail.

As Cumberland Maryland is your destination, I do not believe FOPA will cover you being that in your destination you are illegal to possess. FOPA in theory covers you if you are passing through a non-reciprocal state in which case unloaded and stored out of reach is the prescribed method.

Is this a nekkid bicycle ride?

No guns on that trip unless you want to risk jail time if discovered.

    looking at the map: https://gaptrail.org/explore
you are good down to the MD line, then there is no way to legally carry a gun into that state, loaded or not. The last access in PA seems to be Deal in PA at MP 24.

Maryland gun-law enforcers disguise themselves as grasshoppers.
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.
