    Default LTCF Photo

Okay folks, I remember reading a little while back that starting around 06, our drivers license photo’s were being done with facial recognition software. Does anyone know if they use this same software for your LTCF photo? I am going to be up for renewal in 09 and was wondering if I should just supply my own photos.

So what does the group have to say?

Erie takes a photo on the spot.

Lancaster county takes their own photo on the spot too.........maybe we are missing the point but I believe you cannot supply your own photo for some places.

Okay, I guess I should have been more clear. Please read this thread about facial recognition via our drivers license.

I do not want the sheriff’s office to photograph me using any similar software for facial recognition. In my county, I have the choice of letting them take the pics or providing my own. In the past, 5 years ago, I let them take the photo. Now that I know they are playing around with our drivers license photos I do not want them doing that via my LTCF photo.

I guess I’ll just provide my own to be sure.

    Thanks

I hate to tell you, but I believe facial recognition software can be run on any photo, not just one they take .

I can't speak for all counties, but I think the Sheriffs who do take a pic for you are not quite so high tech. In ChesCo., they have a digital camera on a tripod, snap the shot, pull the memory card and download your picture to their database attached to the application. I doubt it's even saved anywhere except with the application, let alone entered into a facial recognition database.

This is true. If your picture is available, facial recognition software can make use of it. There are a few other considerations, such as image quality and consistency of the angle of the camera. But, those just add to the effectiveness. The real issue, as hinted at earlier, is whether or not the images are being saved in a searchable database.
