My father in law's hand written diary which includes entries when going ashore on Utah beach is worth more than all of them combined - to me.

I was never much interested in commemorative firearms.

Interesting. I like the wood stocks on the auto ordinance.

Might be short term thing. They might sell while a few vets are still alive , but they are not a good long-term investment. . Every other NIB commemorative firearm is generally worth less than a NIB standard model.

As said, these "Commemoratives" typically do not increase in value. 40 years down the road no one will want to pay the money a person pays for these. Unless of course something drastic happens which causes ALL firearm values to increase and even then they won't bring a premium. Look at all the "Tribute" firearms that are on the market. Let's use a John Wayne tribute model. In 25-30 years, how many people will even know who John Wayne was? And some grandson thinks he's going to get a bundle of money for that handgun or rifle? Sorry Charlie.

That said, for the amount you are going to pay for a commemorative, sink that into a well made handgun, rifle or shotgun and it probably will appreciate in value (again, unless something major goes politically wrong in this country or the world).

AO 1911's are Series 80 models. It took quite a bit of digging to find that out. Apparently they don't think that important information to their customers.

Colt released a 4 gun series of gold inlaid WWI 1911 to commemorate the major battles.

    Meuse Argonne
    Chateau Thierry
    the Marne

They had beautiful wooden display cases.

But they made so many and everyone kept them in the box , so 10-20yrs later , ya could hardly give them away.

A LNIB standard Colt Govt Model from the same time would be worth more today.
