In this spandexlurch is correct though perhaps incomplete. The petard was in fact a small bomb meant to breach the gates in city wall defenses. One was "hoist on his own petard" when the bomb exploded before the sapper placing it could escape. Think of Lord of the Rings - The Two Towers where the Orc plants a bomb in hte water gate to breach the wall.

Ronald Stolarczyk's home was condemned for not having electricity or running water. Of course, leave it to the government to take away this mans only place to lay his head down. He seemed to be doing ok before this. Is a person not allowed to collect water himself? Use other means of lighting then overpriced electricity from a company located in the UK? Wood stove for heat? going off the reporting, even if this man was "prohibited" i don't care. he is a hero that defended himself and removed two undesireables from the world. he may very well have saved a woman from being raped or murdered, maybe a disabled person kept captive and tortured, people become spoils from the next robbery as they become more brazen.
who knows, maybe this was their last job, maybe they dindunuttin. maybe a gun store was on the list for later that night. maybe they would move to peddling fentanyl, w/e stupid games stupid prizes.
