If the victim isn't a felon then the 2nd amendment in BILL OF RIGHTS is his permit plain and simple! I hope the national and local gun rights org's pick up on this and provide a legal defense or at least funds for one for the man.

FUNDRAISING EFFORT UNDERWAY FOR HOMEOWNER CHARGED FOLLOWING DEERFIELD FATAL SHOOTING

DEERFIELD, N.Y. -- A fundraising effort is underway for the man who shot and killed two alleged intruders in what state police are calling an attempted burglary in Deerfield.

A GoFundMe page has been set up for Ronald Stolarczyk with a goal of raising $10,000 for legal fees.

According to the page, all money raised will be used to hire a legal defense team versed in the second amendment laws of our country.

So far, more than $500 has been raised.

Suspected intruders, Patricia Anne Talerico, age 57, and her nephew, 27-year-old Nicholas Talerico, were killed in the incident.

Stolarczyk used his deceased father's gun in the shooting, which was not re-registered in his name, according to officials. He was charged with criminal possession of a firearm and is currently being held in the Oneida County Jail pending an appearance in Deerfield Town Court on Monday night.

It will be very interesting if he is not charged with the murder, just charged with the horrific crime of not informing the government he possessed a handgun.

If I were on the jury he would be a free man.

There are weapons other than firearms that humans have made use of for thousands of years. Maybe it looks bad if you impale an intruder on your petard, but it's an option. So is getting your rights restored, in many cases.

I stand corrected, and well past due; my understanding of a "petard" was that it was a poleaxe or halberd, and I was told this in high school, and I believe shown a picture by the teacher. The subject hasn't come up much since then.

I'd correct my post, but I'll leave it be in the spirit of King Canute and his demonstration with the tide.
