No. It was probably mentioned because most of the ones who make the news don't.

Maybe someone read the 2nd amendment to them and they believed it?
There are two kinds of guns. Those I have acquired, and those I hope to.

Good point. The print and broadcast media does this all the time, especially in the TV crime dramas. They love to say, "the gun was registered", "I am licensed to have that", and crap like that. The "gun was not licensed" in cases where there is not requirement to do so. I think it is all part of the conditioning process of gulling Americans into believing that "registration", "licensing" etc are the norm so that when the Democrats start crying for universal background checks and registration, is all sounds pretty normal and reasonable.

Hollywood has been successful in convincing most Americans, including (it would seem) our President, that "silencers" are only used by gangland hit men, undercover spies and commando units, and have no place "on our streets".

Referring to the Las Vegas shootings, Pelosi expressed concern that more people would be mass-shot if they could not hear and thus run from silenced gunfire. That's understandable considering people base what they "know" on wrong information. In the case of politicians, the end justifies the lie even if they do know better. The sad part is, such statements from "leaders" reinforce the bad information.

A sad and scary story, even with the potential (and hope) of no negligence.

It's another reason to remind me of where to point and where not to point my firearm.
