Kamala Harris says she'll ban assault-style weapon imports if she wins White House

Democratic presidential candidate Kamala Harris announced Wednesday she would take executive action to ban the importation of AR-15-style weapons into the U.S. if she’s elected president.

Harris, a California senator, made the pledge during a campaign event in Nashua, N.H., where she detailed how she'd use executive order to pause imports of the firearm until the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives can analyze whether the ban should be permanent.

"When we look at the issue of assault weapons, let's be really clear," Harris said. "Assault weapons are designed to kill a lot of people in a very short period of time. Let's look at the facts: 1 in 4 police officers killed in the line of duty by gunfire is killed by an assault weapon."

I would really like to confirm the above statement because it sounds far off from the truth unless we are now reclassifying handguns as "assault weapons". Having several LE in my family I can confirm that the firearms taken off criminals are handguns at a ratio of at least 20 to 1 if not more vs any long gun.

I know some here do not like this guy but he is on top of most of the current news and he is LE, so if you do not like him then don't watch. :P

Why do we care about imports? Seems to me US firearms manufacturers can meet the demand for ARs.

This would include all imported MSR's (semi auto rifles) not just AR's, they just use the AR15 name since it's now a buzz word for fear and death.

Basically all she wants to do is have the ATF redefine the sporting clause making importing any semi auto rifle illegal. If they cannot get it done through congress and the Senate then it's going to be done via exc order and the ATF from here out.

She has no shot, but as others have said maybe running mate material. However, yes she's an idiot. Rifles, all rifles including AR's are rarely used in crime.
