Re: Class Action Certified Against Monroe County Sheriff
while I all in favor of the class actions suit it call to mind when I was a perty to a class action suit over millions of dollars in unauthorized charges by an internet business. The class lawyers made millions. I received $29.74. Still whenn the government breaks laws it need to be punished.

Re: Class Action Certified Against Monroe County Sheriff
From the link in Post#1
Pursuant to 18 Pa.C.S. § 6111(i),
any person…State or local governmental agency or department that [discloses confidential LTCF information] shall be liable in civil damages in the amount of $1,000 per occurrence or three times the actual damages incurred as a result of the violation, whichever is greater, as well as reasonable attorney fees.
At the present, given the Pennsylvania State Police annual firearm reports, it is believed that the class encompassed more than 17,000 individuals.
So - 10 years of violations .times. $1000 each .times. 17,000 victims + reasonable attorney fees ==== We'll have to see...

Re: Class Action Certified Against Monroe County Sheriff
Times 3 (each occurrence) comes to 51,000,000. The settlement is for the max insurance which is only 10,000,000. And no taxes will not be going up, that's why they settled for the insurance max and didn't pursue more. Because this wasn't about the people, it was about a Sheriff overstepping.

Re: Class Action Certified Against Monroe County Sheriff
So the law suit is settled? My wife and I received our initial LTCF notifications in the mail via a index card with no envelope. We also had to provide all the extra nonsense the 1st time around.
My renewal a few months ago was same day issue without the extra non state required info.
