New York state is still busily chipping away at gun rights and now they’ve introduced Obamacare for guns. Legislators are hard at work trying to force every gun owner in the state (who isn’t a cop or active military) to purchase and maintain a minimum $1 million liability insurance policy.

§ 2353. FIREARM OWNERS INSURANCE POLICIES. 1. ANY PERSON IN THIS STATE WHO SHALL OWN A FIREARM SHALL, PRIOR TO SUCH OWNERSHIP, OBTAIN AND CONTINUOUSLY MAINTAIN A POLICY OF LIABILITY INSURANCE IN AN AMOUNT NOT LESS THAN ONE MILLION DOLLARS SPECIFICALLY COVERING ANY DAMAGES RESULTING FROM ANY NEGLIGENT OR WILLFUL ACTS INVOLVING THE USE OF SUCH FIREARM WHILE IT IS OWNED BY SUCH PERSON. FAILURE TO MAINTAIN SUCH INSURANCE SHALL RESULT IN THE IMMEDIATE REVOCATION OF SUCH OWNER’S REGISTRATION, LICENSE AND ANY OTHER PRIVILEGE TO OWN SUCH FIREARM.

FAILURE TO MAINTAIN SUCH INSURANCE SHALL RESULT IN THE IMMEDIATE REVOCATION OF SUCH OWNER’S REGISTRATION, LICENSE AND ANY OTHER PRIVILEGE TO OWN SUCH FIREARM.

See, this doesn't apply since it only applies to privileges. We have rights, so no one needs to worry.

That's no different that a poll tax. There's no way that would stand up in the supreme court.

But New York screwed Carry Guard over big time. Now some want people to get insurance? Sounds like Catch 22 - Gotta get insurance, but can't get insurance, but gotta get insurance..............

Because when the NRA sponsored it, the Democrats called it "murder insurance".

I don't think any such insurance will ever be sold-and that may be the intent. You cannot get insurance against the risks of a deliberate act. You cannot be insured for drag racing or bungee jumping. You can get insurance that covers you while driving or other normal activities. If no company will sell the insurance but you must have it in NY to have a gun, there may be an increase in out migration from that State. Higher taxes for those left behind will lead to more out migration etc. etc. When NY gets down to two congressmen based on reduced population, it will be less of a problem.
