Default Thinking about sending the Dillon 550B, back for a tune-up.

I haven't used my 550 for a while, so I've been thinking about sending my Dillon 550B, back to the factory for a tune-up. Has anyone sent a 550 back to the factory recently? If so, any recommendations for where I can get the shipping box, what type of box, and how, I should pack it up to safely send it back to Dillon? What components (for example the powder measure) should I disassemble to pack separately, alongside the press frame? Any helpful suggestions would definitely be welcome. Thanks!

Having worked in the freight industry for years I can tell you to remove anything that is subject to being bent or broken and wrap it very well in newspaper or bubble wrap, that would include the powder dispenser and it's connecting rod and anything like it. It is possible to make your own box if you have an old appliance box around (I always save them for such events) though it is a PITA. What do you figure they're going to replace on it? Will they just send you any parts that have gone bad and you can install them?

Try calling Dillon and let them know what you are planning and they just might send you a box.

No, Dillon is pretty good with their warranty. They just charge you for the tune up, broken parts are replaced for free.

Took your advice, called them for box. They're sending one with all the packaging materials, but they are being charging me for it.

What is wrong with it, that it would need to be sent back for a tune up? I have the same press and can't think of anything that could need adjustment or a tune up in my lifetime.

While it's there, id have them upgrade it to the 550C frame. It's stronger & has zerk fittings for grease

Dillion is a fine company and makes great machines. I know people that have bought them used and have been using them for 15 years.
