Default Looking to get into competition in central PA

Looking for some guidance on competitive rifle shooting, I'm in the Mifflin County area. I'd like to cut my teeth on some .22 matches, and then maybe branch out into something with my AR or .243. There are some .22 matches locally, but all that I've seen are on Sunday mornings which are a no-go for me because of church. So, anybody have any recommendations for non-Sunday .22 matches?

.22 rifle matches are generally something in the winter. What else have you shot so far? Quite honestly there's a lot more matches with pistol than with rifle if Saturday is the objective.

All the local PRS matches are Sundays sadly.

What style of shooting are you looking to get into?

I've never shot any matches. Pistol matches aren't all that appealing to me. Not sure why, as I enjoy shooting pistols, just don't really have an urge to compete.

I'm down for trying any sort of .22 match. Do you feel there's a style that would be more conducive than others for beginner competitors?

Well PRS is gonna be centerfire stuff, but, there is a local Rimfire series

Again, they do matches on Sunday's only though.

You’re going to have a hard time finding much that isn’t on Sunday. Some churches have pews. Some have gunfire.

The CMP has Rimfire Sporter Matches. Not sure if any club in your area is participating.

Travel distance from Bellwood to Lewistown is 65 miles. Bellwood Sportsman's Club is holding 22 benchrest silhouette matches Thursday (weekly) starting at 5:30 PM and CMP style Service Rifle matches the first Saturday of each month, starting at 9:00 AM. I cannot speak definitely about either one. Some things I do know about the CMP style are; it starts at 9 but I don't know if that is the sign-up or match start time; it is a 50 round match, standing, sitting, and prone; rifles with an internal 5 rnd. min capacity or detachable magazine should be used. This means M1 Rifle, M14 rifle. Mod of 1903 rifle or M16 rifle or civilian equal. Some rapid fire is required sitting and prone. If you are interested please give me a call, 814-7742-8549.
Closer, at 43 miles, the Liberty Township Sportsmen Club holds 22 Rimfire matches, next one is June 8th. Contact Gib Moyer(very nice guy) at 814-355-0547 or gem14@psu.edu. Gib has been holding CMP and rimfire matches for over 20 years! These Rimfire matches are FREE but YOU must furnish a rifle and ammo.

I attended the second match at Bellwood Sportsmen’s Club. There were 7 shooters, I called the match. It was 40 shots, four positions, any rifle, any sights, $10, and started at 9AM. A short video can be found here:

Next, and all, match will be the first Saturday of the month.
