    Default 870 shell lifter issues

Brought 2 870s to our shooting weekend this week. One is an Express 12ga. Circa 1991, ran perfectly and always has.

The other was a 1982 wingmaster 12ga. that I picked up used last month. I cleaned and lubed it good before even shooting it.
Right off the bat it was jamming either the second or third shell into the bottom of the barrel, like the lifter wasn't going high enough. Not much, maybe 1/8". Was definitely not short stroking.
Laid both guns down side by side, and it was obvious, the shell lifter on the wingmaster was not lifting to the same height as the express at the same point in the forward stroke.

So I took the trigger mechanism out of the express and put it in the wingmaster and no more problems. I shot 150 rounds through it that way.

My question is, should I just get a new trigger group for the wingmaster or is there some spring I can replace to restore proper function to the original all steel trigger group? I looked at the factory diagram for the trigger group but was unable to figure what part I may need.

Try replacing the carrier spring first https://www.midwayusa.com/product/10...00-11-87-11-96

There is also a “Police” follower spring that is supposed to be heavier than the standard factory spring. You may want to check into that.

Thanks, I did find the "police" spring, which apparently is a black spring called a "carrier catch spring" for an 1100.

It doesn't sound like a spring issue-
    Compare the two lifters carefully.
I have had several 870s come in for repair that have had the lifter bent enough to cause failure to feed malfunctions.
