    Default Gas Block Question

Does anyone else have an adjustable gas block that makes their barrel filthy behind the gas port? I never had this problem with the standard .750 gas block that I started with so I assume this must be out of spec slightly. I want one that's easier to adjust anyway so I'm going to replace it with something higher quality but just curious if I should expect it to dump that excess gas on the barrel.

There’s a chance you’re not getting a good seal and you’re seeing the leak.

Is the tube fully in and seated in the gas block? Nathan B has the right idea.

It was fully seated. I switched gas blocks back to a non-adjustable low profile version that I had so I'll see if it does the same thing next time I go shooting. It's not affecting the reliability but I decided to switch when I took my handguard off to clean the barrel and noticed my locking screw had fallen out. I can still adjust the gas but there's nothing to lock that setting down so ...

I like permatex gasket compound (not silicon goo) in between block and barrel and gas key and carrier. The dark brown/black oil sticky stuff comes in a big toothpaste type tube.

A lot of adjustable gas blocks tend to leak after a while. Either that or they freeze up and become non adjustable. I’ve seen it quite a bit.

My two cents: I have just began to research adjustables with my recent AR10 Build. I never gave them much thought with my "conventional" AR's. I am seeing two distinct types the, "bleed off" and non bleed. The bleed offs use ports to externally vent gasses to make the adjustment. The non bleeds just restrict the gasses entering the gas tube with out external venting. perhaps you have a bleed off style ? personally I will be going with the non if I make the change, just personal choice, many piston autoloaders bleed off excess gasses with no issues

I have it on my PSA 20" Grendel rig. It's an adjustable and it gets filthy. I believe SgtRecon has the answer. Cheaper adjustable blocks bleed off and hose the barrel below the block.
